A slight to enhanced risk of severe storms persists across eastern NM today and tonight. Storms will move east to northeast. The stronger cells will be capable of frequent lightning, large hail, damaging winds, heavy rain, and minor flooding. A Tornado Watch is in effect for Curry and Roosevelt Counties through 9pm MDT.
There is a marginal risk for excessive rainfall over eastern NM this afternoon through Saturday morning.Heavy rain may lead to flooding of low-lying areas with ponding of water on roadways.
A more widespread fire weather event is expected on Sunday with stronger southwest winds and very low humidity. Rapid fire spread is possible across all of western and much of central NM on Sunday.
Strong southwest winds will develop Sunday, bringing the potential for damaging wind gusts to sections of NM along with reduced visibility in areas of blowing dust and the threat of rapid fire spread.
